Undergraduate International Students (Including Citizens of Canada and Mexico)

International applicants who do not apply for financial aid by published deadlines, or who are denied aid for their first year at Caltech, are not eligible for need-based financial aid for any other academic period while they are undergraduates at the Institute (with the exception of citizens of Canada and Mexico). Those with financial aid offers will be eligible to apply for assistance in subsequent years. All eligible students must reapply for aid each year.
  

The following materials are needed to apply for all need-based funds administered by the Caltech Financial Aid Office.The Financial Aid Office recommends that you keep copies of all application materials and obtain a Certificate of Mailing from your post office.

2012-2013 Undergraduate International Applicants

 
Follow the instructions below if you are applying to Caltech for admission as a freshman, for entry in fall of 2012, and are not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application
Complete the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application. Register for the 2012-13 PROFILE after October 1, 2011 and designate "California Institute of Technology" as one of the recipients by using our CSS Code 4034.
Due Date: February 1, 2012

Parents’ 2011 National Income Tax Return
Submit a signed copy of your parents’ 2011 national income tax statement or most recently filed statement including all supporting schedules. In the absence of your parents' current tax return, certified documents from employers that verify your parents' annual earnings will be accepted. All income documents must be translated into English.  Please mail directly to: Admissions Office, MC 10-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125-3405.

International Freshman Financial Aid Statement of Intent
Complete the 2012-2013 Statement of Intent and mail it directly to: Admissions Office, MC 10-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125-3405.
Due Date: January 15, 2012

Caltech Scholarship Data Form
Complete the 2012-2013 Caltech Scholarship Data Form to be considered for named and endowed scholarships. Note: Entering students will not be issued a Caltech ID number -required for the form- until sometime in June 2012.
Due Date: July 15, 2012 
 
Follow the instructions below if you are applying to Caltech for admission as a transfer, or 3/2 student for entry in fall of 2012, and are not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
 
International Transfer and 3/2 applicants Supplemental Form
No financial assistance is available for International transfer and 3/2 students. Only International transfer and 3/2 applicants who can demonstrate their ability to pay the full cost of a Caltech undergraduate education will be considered for admission. You must sign and return the supplemental form directly to: Admissions Office, MC 10-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125-3405.

2012-2013 Continuing International students 

CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application

Parents’ 2011 National Income Tax Return
Submit a signed copy of your parents’ 2011 national income tax statement including all supporting schedules. In the absence of your parents' current tax return, certified documents from employers that verify your parents' annual earnings will be accepted. All income documents must be translated into English. You will be sent an email from the College Board with instructions on how to submit your tax returns using the Institutional Documentation Service [IDOC]. Login to the IDOC site, download and complete the IDOC Cover Sheet and submit your 2011 income tax return and all other required documents directly to the College Board. All copies need to be sent directly to the College Board along with your IDOC Cover Sheet.

Student 2011 National Income Tax Return OR Student Certification of Non-Filing

Submit a signed copy of your 2011 national income tax statement. All documents must be translated into English. If you did not or will not file a national income tax statement, please complete the Student Certification of Non-Filing. If you submitted a 2011 Federal Income Tax Form, be sure to submit a signed copy, along with all schedules, attachments, W-2 and 1099 forms. Use the IDOC Cover Sheet to submit this form and all other required documents directly to the College Board.

Caltech Scholarship Data Form
Complete the 2012-13 Caltech Scholarship Data Form to be considered for named and endowed scholarships.
Due Date: April 20, 2012 

Important Reminder: All documents must be submitted directly to the College Board as one complete packet and must have an IDOC cover sheet. Tax returns must be signed.

 

2011-2012 Graduate International applicants (loans only)

 
International graduate financial aid applicants (including citizens of Canada and Mexico) are not eligible for loan funds in their first year of study at Caltech. All eligible students may reapply for aid each year. The Caltech Financial Aid Office receives a large volume of materials from students and their families. It is important that you clearly write your name, and date of birth on the top of all materials that you submit.

The following materials are needed to apply for all graduate loan funds administered by the Caltech Financial Aid Office.
 
Free Application for Federal Student Aid [paper FAFSA]
The 2011-2012 FAFSA paper version must be completed and submitted to the Caltech Financial Aid Office. Please bring in or mail directly to: Financial Aid Office, MC 20-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125.
 
Student’s 2010 Federal Income Tax Return
If you filed a 2010 Federal income tax return, please submit a signed photocopy to our office, including photocopies of your W-2 and 1099 forms plus all schedules and attachments.  Submit all copies directly to: Financial Aid Office, MC 20-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125.
 
Student Certification of Non-Filing
If you did not file a federal income tax return, please complete the Student Certification of Non-Filing. Please attach copies of W-2 or 1099 forms (if applicable) to the Student Certification of Non-Filing.  Submit all forms directly to: Financial Aid Office, MC 20-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125.
 
Verification Worksheet
All students must complete and sign the 2011-2012 Verification Worksheet. Submit form directly to: Financial Aid Office, MC 20-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125.
 
2011-2012 CSS Business/Farm Supplement
If either you or your spouse is self-employed or owns a business/farm, please submit the 2011-2012 CSS Business/Farm Supplement. Submit form directly to: Financial Aid Office, MC 20-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125.

Caltech Graduate Student Loan Application
Complete the 2011-2012 Caltech Graduate Student Loan Application.  Submit form directly to: Financial Aid Office, MC 20-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125.

Caltech Graduate Notification Request
Complete the 2011-2012 Graduate Notification Request. Submit to Option Administrator for completion and signature. Fax, email or submit form directly to: Financial Aid Office, MC 20-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125.

Rental/Lease Agreement
Provide a copy of your current Rental or Lease Agreement. Submit form directly to: Financial Aid Office, MC 20-90, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA 91125.

The forms listed in each section provide us with essential information about your family's financial status and enable us to determine your eligibility for Federal, state, and/or Caltech funds. We encourage you to keep copies of all forms submitted for your records.
 
NOTE: All recipients of financial aid must apply for aid each year.
